Chinese state TV has unexpectedly begun broadcasting some footage of the riots, but downplay it as a “plotted attack carried out by the Dalai Lama clique”, and state “The people of Tibet are incensed by this and strongly condemn these activities which are doomed to failure.”
Lhasa is now under a tight lockdown with soldiers blanketing the city as Chinese troops try to deal with the situation away from foreign media, less than six months out from the Beijing Olympics. The Tibetan government is said to have confirmed 80 deaths, with unconfirmed reports of 100.
