TC Monica update
I’m in Darwin so will try to provide a blow-by-blow for the expected hit or near miss of the city. Latest forecasts are suggesting the system is beginning to veer on a more southerly track and pass below Darwin but anything can happen at this stage. Even if it it does miss, we’re probably still going to feel some strong effects.
Current situation:
- Nearing 1AM local on 25th as I post this.
- People have been stocking up on fuel and supplies, but no suggestion of panic buying.
- I’ve just driven past some of the emergency cyclone shelters, and there are very few people staying at them. Most are either riding it out in their homes, and some people have left town. Not massive amounts of people, but certainly some.
- Strong gales are expected to start sometime in the morning, and peak sometime in the afternoon.
- A breeze has just picked up around the town, but still very minor.
If anything exciting is happening I’ll try to update tommorow, assuming cell or internet holds.
